I am a champion/Lose It App

lose it logoAs you may or may not know, I joined a weight loss competition back in January and I’m happy to report I won!! I used an App called “Lose It”, it’s free in the app store. I’m embarrassed to say I hardly worked out, unless you count shoveling snow. I lost 25 pounds in about 2 months. I literally told “lose it” what my weight was at the time and the weight (goal weight) I wanted to be and it told me eat this many calories and you will lose your weight by bla bla date, people it worked.  I just thought I would share this quickly for anyone interested in losing weight through cutting calories. In my next post I will go deeper into the foods I ate and the functionality of the app. In the meantime, check it out and good luck on your weight loss journey!

The Weight Loss Competition

IMG_3410Without fail, at some point in the year I fall off the fitness wagon and pack on some extra weight and inevitably find myself joining a crazy weight loss competition A couple of years ago we held one at my job and if you didn’t meet your goal you had to eat dog food in front of everyone in the conference room.  Yes, I am aware that’s nuts but better believe everyone in that competition lost that weight.  And yes maybe some people did some questionable things to lose the weight, but no one (me) wanted to eat dog food.   Well it’s 2014 and I’m back at it. This time there’s no dire circumstance to avoid at the end except for feeling like an underachiever and losing some money.  We have two months to lose weight and the person with the highest percentage of weight loss wins.  I have to say that I’m a fierce competitor and I do not like to lose, therefore competitions are right up my alley.  This competition is full of smack talkers, losing is not an option for me, I am in full beast mode.  I decided to check the Carbofix reviews to see if this product was gonna work for me, and i think it will, I also picked to go the low calorie way of dropping weight and I’m using this ap called “Lose It”, it’s pretty cool.  You set a goal and it tells you when you will achieve it.  You record your weight and calories consumed per day and it allows you to monitor your intake so you stay within your calorie allotment. I also started following some fitness minded Instergrammers to keep my head in the game.  My strategy is pretty simple, I’m eating low carb, low sugar, drinking only water, lots of veggies and then finishing out the competition’s last weeks with intense fat burning cardio.  Well peeps that’s what’s up with me right now, I will let you know how baggy my clothes get by D day.   Let me know if you are in any crazy weight loss competitions, and if you are, Good Luck!

Refresh and Renew

Autumn is upon us and with it comes nature’s kaleidoscope of colors displayed on our trees, a brisk breeze, sharpened pencils and the turning of a crisp page in a new book. I like to imagine it’s a “do-over” season, allowing us to shed the old and emerge new. It can be a time of reflection, invigorating walks or quiet moments, curled up on a chair with a good book. I plan on enjoying this special time of year, making the most of the feelings it brings forth in me, the need to learn something new and take steps towards achieving my goals.
Along with the introspection brought forth by the change in season comes a change in wardrobe…. yes my lovelies, this means boots and blazers or hoodies and sweats, whatever makes your toes tingle. If summer was a time of whimsical dresses and flip flops for you then I’m sure you can throw a cardigan over that cute dress and replace your flops with some peep toe pumps. However, if summer was “forgiving/blousy” shirts and loose flowing pants, you know what I mean (and yes this would be me), then let fall be the time for taking those brisk walks I mentioned earlier, and use buycbdproducts in between time to get your Mind and BODY right. Let’s make a pledge to care for our inner and outer selves this fall so that we are ahead of the game when January rolls around.

Be Fearless you Freak!

We all know that life is short; it’s sweet and sometimes sucks, but it’s always an adventure. If you look back on yours will you be happy with the way you lived it? Take a moment today and write down all the things you dream of doing and take small steps in realizing those dreams…inaction is the death of a dream and fear is its co-pilot. Wake up and commit to one thing that will move you in the direction you want to go. Don’t let fear immobilize your journey to happiness. Don’t be average, normal or go along with the status quo…be different, be a freak of nature and no matter what be fearless!

Natural Hair One Year Anniversary

I big chopped on July of 2011 and I am approaching my one year anniversary of creamy crack liberation (smile). Prior to the cut I had been transitioning for about 5 months, so I had about an inch or 2 of natural hair on my head after the cut. I got my cut at Curlisto’s Fifth Avenue Salon in Manhattan http://shop.curlisto.com/, the cut was done by Tameeka, she’s amazing and knows how to handle textured hair. I left the salon feeling light and excited. One year later, I have no regrets. I love the hair growing out of my head, even on the days that my hair is frustrating the hell out of me. It’s liberating to not run from rain in fear of ruining my freshly blown out “do”. I think cutting out your perm is a personal choice and to each her own. I liked my permed hair while it lasted but I was ready to rediscover my curls and I’m happy for the journey…..

I love my Mia Clarisonic

Mia Clarisonic

I finally gave in to my obsessive fascination with the Clarisonic vibrating facial cleaner and I am a happy convert. My skin is soft and supple and squeaky clean. During the first week my skin was going through a breakout period due to aunt flows imminent arrival, as a result I did not see my newly clear complexion until the following week. This instrument promises to slough off dead skin, making it easier for your products to penetrate your skin and get to work, I believe it delivers on its promise. I chose the Mia for its convenient size and cheaper price (119) and I’m happy with that decision. You can go for the big boy which retails for 149 if you’d like, I’m sure it’s amazing.

Grow brows with Castor Oil

After a brutal threading experience where half my brows were ripped out, I began using Castor oil each night for about 2 months and was able to grow my brows back, more full than before.  I highly recommend this as an all natural remedy for growing brows.  Apply the oil with a q-tip nightly and brush.. brush.. brush your brows.
